Strobing with Color Kinetics LEDs
I first would like to thank everybody at Madrix for their work and commitment. Madrix is an exceptional software device.
I would like to see if anybody is experience any issues when strobing LEDs.
I currently have 8 Color Kinetics PDS480 power supplies running 6:36 iColor Module FX. A total of about 200 tiles are being used.
They are all running on an independent gigabit switch.
I noticed that whenever I choose a strobing effect in Madrix not all the tiles are strobing at the same exact. I also notice this lag effect when visualizing a scrolling text. I have tried multiple gigabit switches form Cisco and Netgear with similar results.
This occurs even at low strobe frequency of 3 or 4.
How would others users rate the strobing capailities of their installations?
I have tried to modify my Kinet setting with different fps rates from 15 fps to 40 fps but there is no difference.
Please share your experiences and hopefully i can tweak the setup
Thanks again!

Re: Strobing with Color Kinetics LEDs
Thank you very much for the kind words about MADRIX.
.
Here at the MADRIX office we will consult our developer for the Kinet protocol about this behavior, maybe he can tell us a bit more.

LEDs are nothing without control
Re: Strobing with Color Kinetics LEDs
Dear jingrosso,
.
after speaking with our KiNet developer i can told the following.
Their exists two versions of the KiNet protocol called V1 and V2.
In version V1 exists no sync instead of V2.
For using the V2 it is necessary the power supply support it and the V2 is set.
On the Color Kinetics Website you can download a tool called QuickPlayPro
http://www.colorkinetics.com/support/addressing/
With this Tool you can check if V2 exists in the power supply and if it is set.
.
Beside this we recommend to use the latest MADRIX release version, because in older versions there was a bug with the SCE Pulse/Stobe effect.

LEDs are nothing without control
Re: Strobing with Color Kinetics LEDs
Ok, i get a next hint, inside the device manager of MADIRX on the first page you can see if your power supply runs on V1 or V2.
The name of the device starts with KiNet V1 or KiNet V2

Re: Strobing with Color Kinetics LEDs
Thank you for the response!
I apologize in my delay to give an update.
I currently updated to 2.7 and checked my settings. I am running power supplies pds480ca with KiNetv2.
I also have setting of frame rate at 38ms which gives 26.3 frames/s.
I still am noticing problems with strobing and with text scrolling at high bpms.
Thanks again for your help and let me know if there is anything else I can do. I will be attending LDI 2009 in a few days so we can discuss there as well.
Thank you!
