LightFactory to MADRIX Link

Post by SeanFromBOP »

Hi, I am really new at this, and this is my first post on this site, so please excuse the basic question!

I like the idea of using MADRIX to drive the pixel wall, and our standard lighting software (LightFactory v2.x) to 'cue' up and 'drive' MADRIX.

So... can the link between LF and MADRIX be an Ethernet link, like ArtNET? This makes thinks a little simpler and reliable as conversion to DMX and back again is not required.

If this is the case, then would I need to buy an additional universe for LF?

Thanks, Sean

Hi Sean,
.
Welcome and thank you for looking into the possibilities of using both systems together!
.
Can you please provide some additional details: Are you planning on using LightFactory and MADRIX each on a separate computer?
.
From the LightFactory website I could take that this software supports Art-Net. With this in mind, it should be no problem to connect the two via Art-Net/Ethernet.
.
MADRIX supports Art-Net Remote, which means it can be triggered/ controlled remotely via Art-Net. You can find all the details here: http://help.madrix.com/m3/html/madrix/h ... l_dmx.html
.
You can then use the pre-programmed control protocols or build your own configuration using the built-in DMX-IN Remote Editor.
.
We are sorry, but we cannot answer the license question regarding the additional universe for LightFactory.
.
If you have any further questions, please let us know!
.
Thank you!

Hi Fritzsche

Thanks heaps for the response. It does make sense. In the course of the next year or so, I'll slowly play with the bits and see how it goes. I'm sure I will have lots of queries as I'm going.

You asked if I will use one or 2 computers. If it will run on one, then it will be a little easier to do so. I'm guessing it would need to be a relatively grunty PC though. But I don't have a problem using 2 different PC's, they are cheap nowadays. Having on one PC will be a little easier to operate, using one mouse and KB.

Cheers, Sean

Hi Sean,
.
We will be here to help you!
.
Since Art-Net is a network protocol, running both applications on one system can work in some cases, but doesn't have to. It depends on how the applications are using Art-Net. A so-called shared socket is needed. (MADRIX will provide it as shared socket.)
.
That is why when using 2 computers, it should definitively work. Using one computer with 2 network cards should also work. One computer with 1 network card can be problematic. So, please test beforehand!
.
Thank you.
