How to animate / target "cells" or fixture groups for LED dance floor
Hey everyone, I've been using Madrix for a while but I've never really progressed beyond the presets washing over all of my lights. Which are great. But I'm feeling like it's time for me to upgrade my skills. Especially now that I have this dance floor coming together.
I'll have 64 cells and I'd like to be able to have my effects target each cell specifically. Do I need to put each cell in its own fixture group and then figure out how chasers work?
Or... what other ways are there?

Hello veteze,
When you want to assign and playback different effects at different possitions of your patch respectively dance floor, you have to work with different Effect Layers and the Mapping in MADRIX.
Of course it will help to create Fixture Groups to assign the desired effect to the desired place but it is not absolutely necessary.
Under the following links you will find some tutorials how to work with the Effect Layers, Mapping, Mix Modes and the Groups in MADRIX:

Re: How to animate / target "cells" or fixture groups for LED dance floor
Sweet! Thank you so much. This helped a ton. I'm tiling now. Wow. But now I have even more questions.
I have 6 different types of fixtures. Which I've arranged them all in the patch editor and assign them to their own groups and now I have the mirrored or tiled in one storage place.
What's the best way to deal with the work flow for manipulating the... scenes? Does it work like that? I've set up a whole scene I guess? in one storage place.
But I'm confused about the best way to go about changing certain fixtures on the fly... Does this make sense? Should I just be setting up dozens / hundreds of different scenes in each storage place? Or what's the best way to work on the fly in the moment during an event?
I feel like I don't know the right question to ask...
Thanks again!

Also, I'd like to be able to recreate this effect as far as addressing the 64 squares in the middle of my patch. My dance floor panels.

Obviously I would build on this but being able to say affect the outer square, then the inner square.
I guess I'm just creating a bunch of masks? and then creating a param chaser of some kind? I'll keep messing with it. But if anyone has any shortcuts! I'm only a couple weeks away from the first event for this floor and I'm running out of time.

Nice work. Tiling a colour scroll with square explode motion effect in mapping would mimic the Saturday Night Fever look pretty easily.
Call me on Friday, we can chat through some concepts.

Okay, I totally got this working. Very nice!
Still curious about workflow though.
Should I make effects for each set of fixtures in one set of storage places and then mix and match those in another set of storage places when I'm working on things "live"?
Or... is there a better way?
Also, is there a way to globally change the BPM? right now if the BPM of what's playing changes I have to change the bpm on each effect I'm switching to.

Hello veteze,
A global BPM is not available in MADRIX 3. If you want to change the speed of an effect later you will have the option to use the "Speed Pitch" of the "Storage Place" or the global "Speed" fader besides the left and right "Preview" in MADRIX.
Under the following link you can learn more about the Storage Places in MADRIX:

Under this link you can find some more information about the controls at the Previews:

When you want to create different effects for different parts of the patch I would recommend to work with layers and map the desired effect layers to the desired positions of the patch.
